Dick’s Withdrawl

The NRA has been screwing the American people for a long time.  A very long time.  Many, many years. Decades.  With lethal consequences.  What’s the latest body count? 17 dead, 14 injured in the Valentine’s Day massacre at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in south Florida.  Add that to the long list of mass shootings over the years, and the body count is horrific.

Many have said that Republican politicians have had a fascination with NRA ass for a long time.  A very long time.  Many, many years.  Decades.  With lethal consequences. That sweet, sweet LaPierre ass.  Bending over for the cracker.  Not true?  Then why all the kissing noises? Why the stagnation?  Where’s the legislation?  There is none. Republicans are dependent upon campaign contributions from the NRA – an organization whose obvious agenda is to facilitate the sale of as many guns as possible.  It’s just business.

Because of the latest high school massacre, Dick’s Sporting Goods has pledged to stop selling assault-style rifles, as well as stop gun sales to persons under 21 years old. Being one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the country, their actions have influenced other corporations to follow suit.  Walmart, who had already stopped selling AR-15s and other assault-style rifles in 2015, also pledged to not sell guns or ammunition to those under 21.  Other companies like Delta Airlines have stopped doing business with the NRA through discount programs.  Kids over coins.  What a novel concept.  One no doubt greatly influenced by the protests of the students in s. Florida.  An internet savvy generation, schooled in the art of the tweet, articulate, unapologetic, and scared for their lives.  Pullin wools with your scams – no more silent lambs.

No more asses up and hands out.  The times they are a-changin’.  The next generation is apparently woke – and taking names.  Soon, the NRA is going to have to bend with no Vaseline.  If not, it will break.  Just a match and a little bit of gasoline…

Rom-kneed in the Newts

WHUT ?!!

Is Newt Moot? -or- Super Pacs Pack Powerful Punch

In case you haven’t heard, Mitt Romney won the Republican primary in Florida today. Romney-47%/ Gingrich-31%/ Santorum-13%/ Paul-7%. “Carpet-bombing” is what Newt Gingrich called it.  92% of the ads run in Florida were negative.  $30 million worth. Democrats are loving it!  Next stop Nevada.  I wonder if the candidates will play fair in Las Vegas?  What are the odds?

Peeing in the Wind

Republican takes Cup and goes Home

Indiana General Assembly Representative Jud McMillin withdrew yesterday – the welfare drug testing bill.  Confident that his bill would pass constitutional muster,  (a Federal judge had already struck down a similar Florida* law requiring drug testing of all welfare recipients; determining this to be an “unreasonable search and seizure” ) (Jud’s bill would allow welfare recipients to opt-out of random screening, but by doing so could only be screened if they aroused “reasonable suspicion” (by demeanor, arrest record, or missed welfare appointments) Rep. McMillin  withdrew his bill only after Democratic Representative  Ryan Dvorak successfully amended it.  The amendment required that standards imposed on welfare recipients be applied to everyone who receives government money.  That, of course, includes legislators.  Perhaps Rep. Jud McMillin needs about six months or so to cleanse his system?

* Florida Gov. Rick Scott founded Columbia Hospital Corp. in 1987 and had to resign as CEO of Columbia/HCA under the scandal over their Medicare billing practices.  He was paid $9.88 million to leave and owned 10 million shares in the company at the time.  $350 million in case you were wondering.  The company was subsequently found guilty of  the largest Medicare fraud in U.S. history.  They agreed to the 14 felonies and had to pay over $600 million in damages. Elected in 2010 by the ignorant Tea Party wave, he pressured his Florida legislature to implement the welfare drug testing policy.  By doing so he unwittingly proved his own stated beliefs wrong.  The collected data showed that 98% of Florida welfare recipients were drug free.  Another stereotype bites the proverbial dust.    …Coincidence?: In 2001, Governor Rick Scott founded the drug testing company that was awarded the only contract to test welfare recipients in Florida.  In April 2010, he sold his stock in the company.  $62 million in case you were wondering.

Where’s my Oxycontin?

Today, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) stated that more people die from prescription pain killers than cocaine and heroine combined.

Oxycodone – used to relieve pain; an opiate analgesics (narcotic); works by changing the way the brain and nervous system respond to pain.  Possible side effects: erratic heart rate, difficulty breathing, rash, swelling of face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet or lower legs, seizures, loss of consciousness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and/or constipation.   Hmmm…  medical marijuana anyone?
